2023 NFL Draft Future Bet #3 (Members Only)

Joey Porter Jr. Under 19.5 (-150 Odds via Caesar’s)

Keeping this one simple…. There’s a wide market discrepancy on the price of this bet. At Draftkings, the number is 16.5. It’s impossible to ignore the Steelers sitting at pick #17. Pittsburgh and Mike Tomlin have a history with the player. Joey Porter Sr. was a great pass rusher for Mike Tomlin in the 2000’s who played on 2 Super Bowl winning teams. He then went on to join the Steelers coaching staff from 2014-2018 as a linebackers coach. No team would have more connections to Joey Porter Jr., than the Steelers. Pittsburgh has also shown their willingness to draft players that they are familiar with. The obvious example is last season when they drafted Kenny Pickett after he played at the University of Pittsburgh and actually shared practice facilities with the Steelers. I think there’s a strong chance he ends up with the Steelers after they lost Cam Sutton to free agency, and are looking for a young player to pair with the aging Patrick Peterson and largely ineffective Levi Wallace. In order to compete in the AFC North, with the likes of Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, Pittsburgh will need to add depth at corner.

However, if the Steelers decide to go in a different direction there is a string of cornerback needy teams at 16 (Washington) and 18 (Detroit). The 16th ranked prospect (on ESPN) should have a solid chance of going before 19 as fellow stud corners Devon Witherspoon and Christian Gonzalez will likely be top 10 picks and off the board.

Good Luck!
